Abstract

The rising rate of the organizational crisis, both in terms of global pandemics and economic disturbances, has made it essential to look at the leadership styles that are characterized by the balancing of authority and empathy. In the following research paper, the author will discuss the importance of compassionate leadership during times of crisis and explain how leaders who focus on emotional intelligence, well-being of employees, and making ethical decisions can determine the resilience and the performance of an organization. The mixed-method research design is adopted which is a combination of quantitative data analysis of the survey of employees which measures engagement, stress levels, and productivity with a qualitative data analysis of the structured interview with the leaders and team members working in different industries. The results indicate that compassionate-led organizations have greater trust, collaboration, and adaptive capacity rates, whereas traditional authoritarian leadership styles tend to worsen employee burnout and lower the morale. Professional and effective leadership, including open communication, active listening, and awareness of employee difficulty was found as one of the features that contributed to the continuation of operations and organizational commitment to a crisis. The contextual challenges such as cultural norms, hierarchical structures, and the lack of resources, that may influence the introduction of compassionate leadership are also mentioned in the study. Some of the policy and organizational suggestions comprise leadership training with exerting empathy, frameworks of crisis preparedness incorporating employee support systems, and balanced performance measures that consider the outcomes and well-being. The study has added value to the emerging body of literature on the contemporary workplace authority and offers a practical perspective on the development of resilience, trust, and sustainable organizational success in leaders by presenting the practical benefits of compassionate leadership in managing a crisis.
