Abstract

Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) is a multidimensional subject that examines the design, evaluation and implementation of interactive computing systems that are designed for human use. The purpose of this paper is to explore the trajectory of HCI from its earliest computer-command-line interfaces to present-day conversational or AI-driven interactions. We may examine key elements related to HCI including usability, accessibility, user experience (UX) design principles, as well as other emerging trends such as voice interfaces, augmented reality (AR), and brain-computer interfaces (BCI). We also share common challenges that exist in HCI which include but are not limited to ethical considerations, privacy issues, and digital divides. Finally, we provide suggestions for future research that can influence and shape the development of human-computer interaction and create human-centered computing.
