English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has gained prominence as a vital component of language education in higher education settings worldwide. Unlike general English courses, ESP is tailored to meet the distinct linguistic, academic, and professional needs of learners within specific disciplines such as engineering, medicine, business, and law. This chapter explores the crucial role ESP plays in facilitating students’ academic achievement and career readiness by equipping them with relevant communicative competencies. It discusses theoretical foundations underpinning ESP, emphasizing the importance of needs analysis, authentic materials, and task-based learning. The chapter also addresses practical issues in ESP curriculum design and implementation, highlights the challenges educators and institutions face, and proposes effective strategies for overcoming these barriers. Ultimately, the chapter underscores the need for collaborative, needs-driven, and context-sensitive ESP programs that enhance learner engagement, discipline-specific language proficiency, and employability in today’s globalized world.Published
