English grammar proficiency plays a crucial role in shaping the communicative competence of learners, particularly in multilingual contexts like rural India. However, rural students face persistent challenges in mastering grammar due to educational, sociocultural, and infrastructural barriers. This chapter investigates these barriers and explores practical solutions for improving grammar proficiency in rural areas. Drawing on classroom observations, teacher interviews, and student feedback, the study highlights how traditional grammar instruction often emphasizes rote memorization and exam performance rather than real-life application. Findings reveal that activity-based approaches—such as role play, storytelling, and contextualized sentence-building—significantly improve grammar accuracy, fluency, and learner motivation. The chapter further suggests integrating bilingual methods, leveraging low-cost technological tools, and strengthening teacher training as sustainable strategies. By addressing grammar learning as both a pedagogical and socio-cultural challenge, this study emphasizes the need to bridge the rural–urban divide in English education and empower rural learners with communicative competence.Published
