Abstract

Education is recognised as a fundamental right and a cornerstone for social and economic development. Yet, millions of learners worldwide remain excluded from quality education due to several causes such as poverty, geographic isolation, gender inequalities, and lack of digital infrastructure. The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides a deep opportunity to reimagine education as a truly inclusive and democratized system. By harnessing AI tools, educational access can be expanded, learning experiences personalised, and barriers of language, location, and ability can be systematically reduced. The promise of AI in education lies not in replacing teachers or traditional systems, but in augmenting them to reach learners who are otherwise excluded from education. Thus, democratizing education through AI requires more than technological innovation- it actually demands inclusiveness. By democratizing access, AI can contribute to breaking cycles of disadvantage, fostering lifelong learning opportunities, and preparing students for participation in a knowledge-based global economy. The present discussion sheds light on how AI can act as a bridge across the digital divide and highlights the conditions necessary to ensure equitable benefits.
