Abstract

Abnormal behaviour has been explained through multiple psychological models that emphasize different causes, mechanisms, and approaches to treatment. Psychological models focus on internal processes such as thoughts, emotions, learning, unconscious conflicts, and social experiences rather than biological dysfunction alone. This paper reviews the major psychological models of abnormal behaviour, including the psychodynamic, behavioural, cognitive, humanistic, and sociocultural models. Each model is examined in terms of its core assumptions, explanation of abnormal behaviour, and therapeutic implications. The paper highlights the strengths and limitations of each perspective and emphasizes the importance of an integrative approach for a comprehensive understanding of mental disorders.
