Eating disorders are complex psychological condition that affects eating behavior and are characterized by significant body weight and appearance concerns. These disorders are associated with significant physical and psychological consequences and represent a growing public health concern worldwide. Common eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and Avoidant food intake disorder. Body image concern is a classical feature in many eating disorders and is influenced by psychological, biological, and sociocultural factors. Similarly, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) shares similarities with eating disorders in terms of low self-esteem and distorted body image, but differs in its primary focus on perceived physical flaws rather than weight or shape. Sociocultural pressures and unrealistic body ideals are the prime promoters of these disorders in youngsters. This chapter explores the concept of eating disorders and their relation to BDD, risk factors, consequences, and treatment options. Understanding these factors is essential for early identification, prevention, and treatment strategies that promote healthy eating behaviours and improve mental health outcomes.Published
