The rapid expansion of digital technology has transformed the psychosocial environment of children and adolescents, particularly in urban India. While digital media offers educational and social opportunities, excessive and uncontrolled use has raised concerns regarding digital addiction, emotional dysregulation, and emerging behavioural problems, including juvenile delinquency. This paper examines the relationship between digital addiction and emotional regulation, and how problematic social media exposure may contribute to delinquent behaviours among urban Indian youth. Drawing upon existing empirical literature, neuropsychological evidence, and socio-cultural perspectives, the study highlights how impaired emotional regulation serves as a key mediating mechanism between digital overuse and maladaptive behaviours. Findings suggest that excessive engagement with smartphones, social networking platforms, and online gaming is associated with impulsivity, aggression, reduced self-control, and increased risk-taking behaviours, particularly in emotionally vulnerable adolescents. The Indian urban context—with increased screen access, academic pressure, reduced parental supervision, and socio-economic disparities—further intensifies these risks. The paper underscores the need for early identification, emotionally informed interventions, school-based mental health programs, and family-focused digital literacy initiatives. Addressing digital addiction as a developmental psychopathology concern is essential for preventing emotional dysregulation and juvenile delinquency among India’s growing adolescent population.Published
