Psychological development does not occur in a vacuum. From the earliest stages of infancy through the complexities of adulthood, human beings are profoundly shaped by the social environments they inhabit and the cultural frameworks through which they interpret experience. This chapter examines the multifaceted ways in which social and cultural forces influence psychological development across the lifespan. Drawing on foundational theories including Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems model, and cross-cultural psychological research. This chapter explores how family structure, peer relationships, socioeconomic context, cultural values, and broader societal norms interact to shape cognition, identity, emotion regulation, and mental health. Special attention is given to the roles of language, socialization practices, cultural scripts, and intersectionality in mediating developmental outcomes. The chapter concludes by highlighting clinical and educational implications and calling for culturally informed approaches to understanding human development.Published
