The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 envisions integrating environmental sustainability into the Indian education system to cultivate environmentally conscious and responsible global citizens. It emphasizes a holistic approach by incorporating experiential learning, multidisciplinary education, and traditional Indian knowledge systems into the curriculum. The policy highlights the importance of practical skills such as waste management, water conservation, and renewable energy use. Additionally, NEP 2020 advocates for green schools, characterized by eco-friendly infrastructure, sustainable campus practices, and student-led initiatives like eco-clubs and biodiversity audits. Pedagogical innovations, including project-based learning and the use of digital tools, further enhance the teaching and understanding of environmental concepts. Despite its progressive vision, NEP 2020 faces implementation challenges, including inadequate resources, insufficient teacher training, and limited community engagement. To address these barriers, the chapter recommends targeted capacity-building programs for educators, fostering partnerships with NGOs and industries, and leveraging digital tools for effective environmental education. Establishing monitoring and evaluation frameworks is essential to track progress and assess impact. By equipping learners with the knowledge, skills, and values for environmental stewardship, NEP 2020 positions education as a catalyst for sustainable development, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future.Published
