Abstract

Purpose: This paper explores various counseling techniques, including play therapy, art therapy, music therapy, psychodynamic techniques, behavior therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), in the context of counseling practice in India. Background: In India, a range of counseling techniques are used in counseling psychology. However, counselors often face uncertainty regarding which technique to adopt for a particular session. This paper aims to provide valuable insights for counselors practicing in the Indian setting. Method: A two-fold literature review strategy was employed. Initially, the review examines case studies conducted by non-Indian counselors, particularly from foreign countries. Subsequently, the focus shifts to studies conducted in the Indian context. Conclusions: The findings highlight that these counseling techniques offer significant insights for Indian counselors. Despite limited research availability, these findings challenge skepticism surrounding their application in the Indian context.
