The development of modern civilization, mechanization, urbanization and industrialization is at its peak today, resulting in global environmental catastrophe. Environmental crisis is going on around the world. The air is filled with polluted smoke. Man is ruthlessly exploiting nature for his own will, so nature is also trying to resist man's harmful activities in a wounded form. In this context environmentally sustainable development has become very important. Environmental sustainability is about maintaining the current balance of the natural environment and conserving natural resources for the well-being of future generations. India's third National Education Policy, NEP 2020, lays special emphasis on the sustainable development of the environment so that by studying the planned curriculum provided by NEP 2020, students can acquire the necessary literacy to protect the quality of the environment. The goals of NEP 2020 and SDG 4 (Education for Sustainable Development) are deeply intertwined. This book chapter explores the discussion of environmental sustainability in India's three national education policies and the importance of environmental education in NEP 2020 and its implications for environmentally sustainable development.Published
