MIGRATION, DISPLACEMENT, AND VULNERABILITY: HUMAN RIGHTS PERSPECTIVES FROM ASSAM

Abstract

This study explores the complex interlinkages between migration, refugee flows, and human rights violations in Assam, India. The region has experienced significant population movements driven by economic instability, environmental degradation, and socio-political conflict. Using a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative analysis of secondary data and qualitative field interviews, this study identifies strong positive correlations between migration rates, refugee inflows, and incidents of human rights violations. The findings underscore the heightened vulnerability of migrant and refugee populations, who often face systemic barriers to education, healthcare, and employment. The study concludes by recommending inclusive, rights-based policies and targeted interventions to address the root causes of migration while safeguarding the human rights of affected communities.
