Abstract

Traditional knowledge systems have long been serving as the foundation of healthcare in many cultures, that offers a holistic approach that integrates physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. This chapter aims to explore the ancient healthcare system in relation to the modern medicinal system, highlighting their philosophical foundations, diagnostic methods, and treatment approaches. Traditional systems, often rooted in herbal medicine, dietary regulation, and preventive care, emphasize the body’s natural healing capacity and its connection to the environment. While, modern medicine is largely grounded in empirical science, technological interventions, and standardized clinical protocols, prioritizing disease-specific treatment. By comparing these two systems, this chapter explores areas of convergence, such as the recognition of plant-based pharmacology and preventive health, as well as areas of divergence, including their epistemological bases and approaches to patient care. The study underscores the value of integrating select traditional practices into contemporary healthcare to promote sustainability, cultural preservation, and patient-centered treatment, while ensuring safety and scientific validation.
