Abstract

Environmental education plays a pivotal role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion. However, its success hinges on inclusivity, particularly in addressing gender disparities that shape access to education, resources, and decision-making. This chapter explores the nexus of gender and environmental education, emphasizing the importance of integrating gender perspectives to promote equity and sustainability. Drawing from empirical research and case studies, it highlights the gendered dimensions of environmental engagement, the transformative potential of inclusive environmental education, and strategies for fostering gender-equitable learning environments. Key principles include intersectionality, participatory methods, and contextual relevance, while practices such as curriculum design, teacher training, and community engagement are discussed. Despite challenges like cultural norms, resource constraints, and resistance to change, the chapter underscores the need for policy integration, collaborative research, and innovative pedagogies. By prioritizing gender equity, environmental education can empower individuals to address systemic inequities and contribute to sustainable development. The findings advocate for a holistic approach that nurtures critical thinking, empathy, and collective action, paving the way for inclusive and effective educational practices aligned with global sustainability goals.
