Major Depressive Disorder is a condition in which an individual suffers from low mood, lack of interest in any activity, cognitive disturbances and diminished physical capacity. It is one of the top disabling medical conditions in India and worldwide. Although, pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions are available, but there is a lack of full recovery which makes it necessary to integrate other complementary therapies along with conventional medical treatments. Complementary therapies include mindfulness, meditation, digital/electronic wellness, exercise and social support. These complementary therapies have gained significant attention in the management of depression as they are more holistic a patient-centered. In this chapter, we will discuss the etiology, clinical presentation and traditional management of MDD followed by a discussion on various complementary therapies, incorporating the literature from around the world.Published
