CEREBRAL PALSY AND PEDIATRIC NEUROLOGICAL REHABILITATION

Abstract

Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most common causes of childhood disability worldwide and is characterized by permanent disorders of movement and posture resulting from non-progressive injury to the developing brain. Children with cerebral palsy often experience limitations in motor control, sensory processing, communication, and participation in daily activities. Occupational therapy plays a crucial role in improving functional independence, enhancing participation, and supporting the overall quality of life of children with CP and their families. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of Pediatric neurological occupational therapy rehabilitation in cerebral palsy using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework. It includes conceptual understanding, assessment strategies, evidence-based intervention approaches, and practical clinical guidelines for therapists working in hospital, community, and school settings.
