Artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally transforming modern medicine and medical laboratory technology, offering new capabilities across diagnostics, quality management, and laboratory automation. This chapter reviews AI applications in major disciplines of laboratory medicine. In haematology, AI aids in automated blood cell counting and the detection of abnormal cells. In clinical chemistry, machine learning supports biomarker analysis and intelligent data checking. In microbiology, AI improves colony identification and antimicrobial resistance prediction. In histopathology and cytology, deep learning assists in tumour detection and grading. AI-based biosensor platforms also improve point-of-care diagnosis in resource-limited settings. The chapter also addresses ethical issues, evolving regulatory frameworks and workforce implications. AI in laboratory medicine is not a replacement for human expertise but a powerful collaborative tool that enhances diagnostic accuracy, efficiency and equity.Published
