ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN DIALYSIS MONITORING AND PATIENT MANAGEMENT

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming healthcare by improving diagnosis, monitoring, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making. In nephrology, AI is increasingly being used to improve dialysis monitoring and patient management. Patients receiving haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis require continuous assessment of fluid balance, blood pressure, electrolyte status, infection risk, and cardiovascular stability. Traditional dialysis care relies heavily on manual observation and clinician experience, which may delay recognition of early complications. AI technologies such as machine learning, predictive analytics, wearable devices, telemedicine, and clinical decision-support systems can analyze large volumes of patient data and identify early warning signs of complications. These systems help optimize dialysis prescriptions, monitor vascular access, support remote patient supervision, and improve treatment outcomes. AI-based approaches may reduce hospitalization, improve quality of life, and enhance the efficiency of dialysis care. This chapter discusses the applications, benefits, challenges, ethical concerns, and future prospects of AI in dialysis monitoring and patient management.Published
