Abstract

Advanced diagnostic technologies have significantly transformed modern optometric practice by improving the accuracy, efficiency, and early detection of ocular diseases and visual disorders. Traditional eye examination methods have gradually evolved into technology-driven diagnostic approaches that provide detailed structural and functional assessment of the eye. Contemporary optometry now incorporates advanced imaging systems, computerized visual analysis, and artificial intelligence-based tools to enhance patient care and clinical decision-making. This chapter discusses major diagnostic technologies used in optometry, including optical coherence tomography, corneal topography, wavefront aberrometry, fundus imaging, automated perimetry, and ocular biometry. The role of digital retinal imaging, tele-optometry, and artificial intelligence in disease screening and management is also highlighted. These technologies assist in the early diagnosis of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular disorders, keratoconus, and refractive abnormalities, thereby improving visual outcomes and reducing the risk of preventable blindness. Furthermore, the chapter explores the clinical applications, advantages, limitations, and future perspectives of advanced optometric diagnostics. As eye care continues to evolve, optometrists must remain updated with technological advancements to provide evidence-based, patient-centered, and efficient vision care services.
