Contact lens technology has undergone remarkable advancement over the past several decades, transforming from simple vision correction devices into highly sophisticated optical systems designed to improve visual performance, ocular comfort, and therapeutic outcomes. Modern contact lenses are widely used for the correction of refractive errors, cosmetic enhancement, therapeutic management, and myopia control. Advancements in lens materials, manufacturing techniques, surface treatments, and fitting technologies have significantly enhanced patient safety, oxygen permeability, and wearer comfort. This chapter discusses the evolution of contact lens technology and contemporary clinical practices in optometry. Major topics include classification of contact lenses, lens materials, fitting principles, diagnostic evaluation, lens care systems, complications, specialty contact lenses, and recent technological innovations. The chapter also highlights the role of contact lenses in orthokeratology, keratoconus management, and pediatric myopia control.
