GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT: FOUNDATIONS, CHALLENGES, AND PATHWAYS TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Gender equality and women's empowerment constitute two of the most critical social and developmental objectives in the modern world. These two concepts are indispensable for ensuring human rights, establishing social justice, and achieving sustainable development. Despite significant strides made in the realms of education, employment, and political participation, women continue to face various forms of discrimination and inequality. This chapter provides a comprehensive discussion of the concepts of gender equality and women's empowerment; examines their significance in contemporary society; addresses the obstacles hindering women's progress; and highlights the roles of education, economic participation, and policy initiatives in establishing equality. The chapter argues that women's empowerment is not merely a matter of justice, but also an essential prerequisite for inclusive and sustainable development.
