Abstract

When solar and wind power feed into aging grid infrastructure, the consequences extend well beyond engineering diagrams. Frequency deviations, reactive power imbalances, and storage bottlenecks emerge as immediate physical realities that transmission networks were not built to handle. These constraints carry a financial dimension that is frequently overlooked — when physical grid behavior goes unaccounted for, the revenue projections embedded in infrastructure investment models rest on flawed foundations. The result is risk that is systematically underpriced, capital tied to assets that deteriorate faster than anticipated, and electricity networks that remain vulnerable despite substantial funding inflows. This paper advances a framework that treats electrical system constraints not as peripheral technical details but as core variables in green finance decision-making. Transmission losses, load-balancing requirements, and storage limitations are mapped directly onto risk pricing structures and investment timelines, creating a basis for capital allocation that reflects how grids actually behave under renewable generation conditions. The aim is to close the analytical gap between what engineers understands about grid performance and what financiers embed into project models — a gap that, left unaddressed, quietly erodes the effectiveness of clean energy investment at scale.
