Abstract

Traditional pedagogy and andragogical methods are no longer sufficient for addressing the needs of teaching and learning in the contemporary era. With the advent and rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), learners now have access to diverse pathways for self-determined learning, an approach conceptualized as heutagogy by Hase and Kenyon (2000). This learner-centered approach is underpinned by six core elements: explore, create, collaborate, connect, share, and reflect. To effectively integrate heutagogy into today’s educational curriculum, it is essential to ensure that its guiding principles are thoroughly embedded in curriculum design. This chapter focuses on outlining the foundational principles of the heutagogic approach and exploring various strategies for incorporating this innovative methodology into the design of modern curricula.
