INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM: CONTEMPORARY RELEVANCE IN INDIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM (SPECIAL REFERENCE WITH NEP 2020)

Abstract

The Indian knowledge system is a vast and dynamic tradition of knowledge that has been evolving and continuing in India for many ages. It is associated with Indian philosophy, literature, the education system, health, ethics and spirituality. Therefore, it is a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses the whole education system of India. It presenting an integrated and holistic framework of IKS and highlights its multidisciplinary nature and enduring relevance. Going through the Vedas and Upanishads, we found that it is a holistic approach to learning that integrates intellectual, moral and spiritual development among learners. In the contemporary education context, there is many impacts of indigenous knowledge systems to address the limitations of purely modern, information-oriented education. This chapter examines the relevance of IKS in present-day education by promoting value-based learning, experiential learning, sustainability and awareness. It also studies the impact and utilization of traditional education system on contemporary education and explores the challenges in integrating IKS into formal education and suggests strategies for effective implementation. So IKS’s impact on Indian present education system is very much important matter to discuss.
