Abstract

Indian knowledge system (IKS) comprises of various types of disciplines among which YOGA is one. It is one of the most practiced disciplines in the world which can be seen among the people. In the beginning it is said that there was darkness and the darkness was also covered by darknessthen the light came and the word ‘OM’ gave rise to words or knowledge which got compiled as ‘Vedas’. In the hierarchy of Vedic Knowledge there are four main Vedas: ‘Rig Veda’, ‘Sama Veda’, ‘Yajur Veda’ and ‘Atharva Veda’ (Tiwari, 2023 and Borah et al., 2026). Then comes four Up-Vedas or Sub-Vedas which consists of: ‘Ayur Veda’, ‘Artha Veda’, ‘Dhanur Veda’, and ‘Gandharva Veda’. After that it has got six ‘Upanganas’ or components which consists of: Shiksha, Kalpa, Vyakarana, Nirukta, Chandas and Jyotisha followed by its sub components which again consists of six components out of which one is ‘Yoga’(Khare and Kumar, 2025, Behera et al., 2026, Yuvaneswari, 2025, Sahoo et al., 2025).
