Abstract

Heutagogy, a learner-centered approach that prioritizes self-determination and adaptability, offers a transformative model for higher education. This paper explores the theoretical foundations of heutagogy, including constructivism, social cognitive theory, and andragogy, and examines its practical applications, such as project-based learning, personalized learning pathways, and experiential learning. The role of technology in facilitating heutagogical practices, such as AI-driven adaptive learning, virtual reality, and online platforms, is also discussed. Despite challenges like resistance to change, inequitable access to resources, and the need for new assessment models, heutagogy holds the potential to reshape higher education by fostering critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning. Future directions for its implementation include institutional support, data analytics, industry collaboration, and promoting a growth mindset. Heutagogy can empower learners to take charge of their educational journeys, preparing them for the complexities of the 21st century.
