Inclusive education has become a cornerstone of equitable and quality education, ensuring that all learners, regardless of ability, background, identity, or socio-economic status, participate meaningfully in learning. Contemporary educational reforms increasingly recognize teachers as leaders who influence inclusive practices beyond classroom instruction through collaboration, curriculum innovation, mentoring, advocacy, and participation in school decision-making. In inclusive schools, teacher leadership supports differentiated instruction, interdisciplinary teamwork, and the creation of learning environments that foster belonging and learner diversity. Despite its significance, teacher leadership faces challenges such as limited professional autonomy, inadequate leadership preparation, heavy workloads, insufficient institutional support, and gaps between policy and practice. At the same time, opportunities arising from distributed leadership, professional learning communities, digital technologies, and inclusive education reforms have strengthened teachers' leadership potential. This paper critically examines the evolving role of teacher leadership in inclusive schools by reviewing contemporary literature on leadership, inclusive pedagogy, and school improvement. It identifies major challenges and opportunities while proposing strategies to strengthen teacher leadership through professional development, collaborative leadership structures, evidence-informed practice, and supportive educational policies, arguing that sustainable inclusive education depends on empowered teacher leaders as much as on effective school leadership.Published
