VIKSIT BHARAT @2047: A STRATEGIC ROADMAP FOR INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 represents India's long-term aspiration to become a developed, inclusive, innovative, and environmentally sustainable nation by the centenary of its independence. This chapter examines the conceptual foundations, key development pillars, emerging challenges, and strategic priorities necessary to achieve this national objective. It argues that sustainable development extends beyond economic growth and requires an integrated approach encompassing human capital development, technological advancement, environmental sustainability, institutional reforms, and inclusive governance. The discussion highlights the significance of initiatives such as Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, PM Gati Shakti, the National Education Policy 2020, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission in strengthening economic competitiveness and social equity. Furthermore, the chapter explores the role of digital transformation, research and innovation, climate resilience, infrastructure development, and cooperative federalism in fostering long-term national progress. It also identifies persistent policy challenges, including regional disparities, unemployment, digital inequality, environmental degradation, and governance constraints. The chapter concludes by proposing a strategic roadmap that emphasizes innovation-driven growth, quality education, institutional effectiveness, green development, and citizen-centric governance to realize the vision of a resilient, equitable, and globally competitive Viksit Bharat by 2047.
