The human body uses pain, a complicated and multidimensional phenomenon, as a vital defence mechanism. It includes emotional, cognitive, and behavioural aspects in addition to being a sensory reaction to tissue damage. "An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage" is the definition of pain given by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). This concept emphasises how subjective pain is and acknowledges that different people perceive pain differently because of biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors. From early beliefs that saw pain as a spiritual experience or divine punishment to contemporary scientific understanding based on neurophysiological and biopsychosocial models, the idea of pain has undergone tremendous evolution over time.Published
