Abstract

Pain is a complicated, multifaceted sensation that is impacted by social, psychological, and biological variables. Thus, a holistic, patient-centred, and biopsychosocial paradigm of care has replaced the primarily biological approach to modern pain management. By addressing pain, physical impairments, mobility dysfunction, activity constraints, and participation restrictions, physiotherapy plays a significant role in this modern approach. Through thorough evaluation, patient education, education on pain neurology, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, physical and electrotherapeutic modalities, graduated exposure, sensorimotor rehabilitation, and functional restoration, physiotherapists help manage pain. The scope of physiotherapy for people with chronic pain has been further enlarged by modern techniques such as graded motor imagery, mirror therapy, self-management techniques, mindfulness-based therapies, and telerehabilitation.
