Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming higher education by shifting learning from information acquisition to knowledge creation, critical thinking, and meaningful learning experiences. As generative AI provides instant access to information, learners face new challenges related to attention fragmentation, cognitive offloading, and ethical AI use. This chapter argues that educational design must move beyond content-centred instruction toward experience-centred learning that prioritizes human cognition, creativity, collaboration, and reflective practice. It examines how AI redefines the meaning of knowing, reshapes learner engagement, and evolves from a productivity tool into an intelligent learning partner. The chapter further discusses the importance of designing for productive struggle, rethinking assessment through authentic and process-oriented approaches, and preserving human connection in AI-supported learning environments. Finally, it proposes an AI-aware Learning Experience Design (LxD) framework that integrates personalization, ethical AI literacy, authentic assessment, cognitive engagement, and human-centered pedagogy to prepare learners for an increasingly AI-driven and knowledge-intensive world.Published
