Abstract

Higher education is expanding into immersive learning that offers students practice, exploration, and feedback in authentic but secure learning environments. In this chapter, the ways AI can enhance VR, AR, and XR through personalization, reflection, performance monitoring, and inclusion will be discussed. The argument will be made that immersive learning is especially useful in cases when the experience is not an exhibit of technology but an integral part of the process of learning. Yet, that is possible only when the experience is well-designed in connection with outcomes, assessment, and student support. This chapter examines VR, AR, and XR in the context of experiential learning. It compares their capabilities, suggests a design framework for future-proof implementation. And it addresses ethical and practical challenges including affordability, accessibility, privacy concerns, cognitive overload, and teacher preparation. A table and a conceptual diagram structure the basic design consideration. Conclusion is drawn that the use of AI-enhanced immersive learning is expected to improve engagement, self-efficacy, skill building, and conceptual knowledge. It happens when innovative technologies are wisely combined with sound pedagogy and evidence-based governance.
