Effective education can be achieved through the efforts of well qualified, competent and effective teachers. An effective teacher may be understood as the one, who helps in the development of basic skills, enhance mutual cooperation, fulfil his work commitments and support value judgement. Teacher effectiveness is the matter of degree to which a teacher achieves the desired effects upon students. The present study is an attempt to review the teacher effectiveness of secondary school teachers. The studies have shown that teacher efficiency may be influenced by variety of factors namely teaching experience, professional training, happiness quotient, sense of humour, intelligence quotient, occupational stress, self-efficacy, attitude towards teaching profession, professional ethics, emotional intelligence, institutional climate, change proneness. Hence, efforts should be made to inculcate and balance these qualities in order to enhance the effectiveness of the teacher and thereby improving the teaching-learning process.
