Abstract

Jane Austen has been one of most fascinating author who revolutionized the idea of femininity with the complex characterizations in relation to various perceptions and understandings of human psychology especially in adolescence, encompassed within twentieth century models of psycho-therapy. The paper carefully reflects the collaboration between the scientific and literary academic communities thus describing this collaboration as a ‘new interdisciplinarity’ that serves to bridge ‘the notorious but increasingly narrow “gap” between the humanities and the sciences’ in way that informs and illuminates both of the fields. The emergence of this interdisciplinarity, appears to far largely to have been constituted of contributions to literary criticism from the cognitive sciences and cognitive psychology keeping in view the famous works of Jane Austen providing to social construction especially in adolescents and new generations. To understand application of psychotherapy and different schools of psychotherapy including Freudian analysis, emotional intelligence and autonomy thus reflecting the new interdisciplinarity between science and humanities, hugely influential in client centered model of counselling. To understand relevant discourses and representations prevailing in Austen’s time in terms of novels, poetry, political and philosophical commentaries etc., that created her characters and cultivating various interactions taking place between them.
