We live in times that are dominated by instant gratification and abundance yet people are feeling lonely, alienated and struggling with low self -esteem more than ever before. It is therefore imperative to understand what true happiness is. This study aims to explore the concept of Happiness from one of the Eastern perspectives of Positive Psychology namely Buddhism. Buddha expounded four fundamental truths of human existence –birth, ageing, sickness and death which are inevitable in each human life. Prerequisites for authentic happiness to not just survive but to thrive in the realm of the above truths will be stressed. Factors that are perceived as contributing to sustained joy and contentment will also be highlighted. The study aims to empower people by tapping into their own inner reservoirs of wisdom and courage amidst their challenges to lead a pleasant, good and a meaningful life (Seligman, 2002). Towards that end intervention techniques for boosting happiness in life will also be discussed.Published
