Abstract

For centuries philosophers have pondered the connection between mental and physical health. Science now recognizes the mind / body connection. Researches continue to find evidence that our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, attitudes and handling stress can positively or negatively affect our physical health. If we move through our lives without awareness of our body, breathing, habits, routine, impulses and reactions, we will lose power. So practicing Self-awareness is important and when we practice Self-awareness the time spent in the hallway is fruitful and productive. As we reflect upon ourselves we integrate more and more pieces of ourselves. Our sense of whole becomes larger and stronger. Self-awareness is the ability to see ourselves clearly and objectively through reflection and introspection. Self-awareness has the potential to enhance virtually every experience we have. There are many ways to practice Self-awareness, out of which one most effective techniques of building and practicing Self-awareness is regular practice of yoga. Regular practice of yoga establishes us in the self. A sense of belongingness and a sense of peace with ourselves and everything around us are built through yogic practices. We can even pair yoga with meditation and mindfulness to boost our Self-awareness. Yoga attends to all aspects of our being - body, mind, breath, emotions and the inner self. Yoga is the restraint of thought waves. The present article includes a description of Self-awareness, tips and tools we can use to boost our Self-awareness and how yoga fine tunes our mind to a state of relaxed awareness to live joyfully in the present moment.
