Abstract

The goal of education is to mold students' behaviors into well-rounded individuals who can successfully fulfill their social obligations. The standard of teacher education directly affects the quality of education, and the standard of education ultimately depends on the chances provided to educators for professional growth. It is a significant task to bring about a qualitative shift in the institutional level of teacher efficiency. Professional development programs are crucial for professionals like technicians, engineers, doctors, teachers, and others, and they are not just tied to business and management. Upon completion of certain professional development courses, candidates receive official recognition and are awarded certificates. The education, information, and abilities teachers acquire throughout their pre-service training are insufficient and do not greatly assist them in overcoming the difficulties of a world that is changing quickly. Programs for professional development or in-service education are designed to help teachers address this challenge by upgrading and expanding their knowledge and skill sets. As opposed to the notion that "teachers are born not made," professional development programs reinforce the idea that "teachers are made not born." It is expected of teachers to possess the abilities that will enable them to address issues in the classroom. This essay will explain the necessity for, types of, problems with, and recommendations for professional development for instructors working at the higher education level.
