The National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, developed under the broader vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has set a transformative course for teacher training in India. Recognizing the pivotal role of physical education in holistic student development, NCF-SE 2023 places significant emphasis on the preparation and continuous professional development of physical education instructors. The framework envisions teachers as facilitators who can integrate fitness, sportsmanship, and mental well-being into the educational experience. To meet the modern demands of education, there is an urgent need for physical education instructors to be equipped with advanced skills, multidisciplinary knowledge, and a student-centric approach. Competent teachers are essential for fostering inclusivity, promoting indigenous sports, and incorporating mental health awareness into physical education programs. This paper explores the innovative methodologies outlined in NCF-SE 2023 for teacher training, including competency-based learning, the integration of technology, and the promotion of indigenous sports. Additionally, it highlights the inclusion of emerging trends like virtual platforms and AI-driven tools for enhancing training efficacy. The importance of collaboration between policymakers, schools, and the private sector to overcome resource constraints and resistance to change is also examined. It also discusses the role of continuous professional development (CPD) programs in ensuring lifelong learning for physical education teachers. Additionally, the challenges of implementation, such as resource constraints and resistance to change, are analyzed to propose actionable solutions. Through the lens of NCF-SE 2023, this paper underscores the transformative potential of teacher training in redefining physical education. By adopting these strategies, India can cultivate educators who not only foster physical fitness but also support students’ overall development, ensuring they are prepared to face the challenges of the modern world.Published
