Abstract

This paper examines the profound influence of ancient Indian philosophical traditions, such as Vedanta, Yoga, and Buddhism, on the development of modern psychological theories. The analysis traces the historical roots of psychological thought in India, exploring how Indian philosophies have shaped contemporary psychological practices. Focusing on mindfulness, self-actualization, and holistic mental health, the paper examines the intersection between Eastern and Western psychological traditions. This historical perspective highlights the integration of Indian philosophies into modern practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Humanistic Psychology, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). The findings suggest that Indian philosophical traditions continue to offer valuable contributions to the advancement of modern psychological theories, offering an inclusive and comprehensive approach to mental health.
