Causal factors for rape include a complex interplay of psychological, social, cultural, and environmental factors. Malignant psychological traits combined with skewed gender roles create an environment where sexual violence is normalized. Unchecked access to media and technology shows its darker implications in this context, with platforms enabling online harassment and the non-consensual spread of sensitive information. Substance use, particularly alcohol, by both the perpetrator as well as the victim is a cardinal cause. Legal and cultural challenges stemming from age-old societal constructs hinder obtaining consent and blind society to this pertinent issue. Addressing rape requires a comprehensive approach that includes education on consent, challenging harmful gender norms, and reinforcing legal protections. A shift in cultural attitudes toward gender, sexuality, and power is essential to reduce the incidence of rape and its profound societal impact.Published
