Abstract

Tolerance and cooperativeness are fundamental qualities necessary for social harmony, conflict reduction, and inclusivity in diverse societies. In the contemporary world, marked by globalization, rapid technological advancements, and increasing cultural diversity, understanding the shifts in these traits becomes increasingly important. Younger generations, exposed to digital media and cultural influences, exhibit evolving attitudes toward diversity, cooperation, and social interaction. This review explores the psychological mechanisms driving these changes, focusing on empathy, moral development, cultural diversity, media, and education. Factors such as empathy and moral reasoning contribute to increased tolerance and cooperativeness, while media and technology can both enhance interconnectedness and exacerbate polarization. Educational approaches, particularly social-emotional learning (SEL) and media literacy, play critical roles in fostering cooperative attitudes. Understanding these dynamics can help develop effective strategies to promote tolerance and cooperation among contemporary youth in diverse, interconnected societies.
