Abstract

Digital arrest scam is a growing form of cybercrime in India. In this scam, criminals pretend to be law enforcement officers to trick people with threats of arrest or legal action. They take advantage of fear and urgency, often asking for payments in unusual ways like gift cards, cryptocurrency, or bank transfers. This chapter looks at how these scams work, their effects on people's minds and finances, and how they affect public trust in the police. Additionally, it offers tips for staying safe, like spotting warning signs, checking the legitimacy of messages, and using strong cybersecurity measures. Raising public awareness, reporting scams quickly, and improving collaboration between law enforcement and tech companies are crucial to reducing the risk of digital arrest scams in India.
