Abstract

India’s education system is transforming from focusing on universalizing education to accessing quality education leading toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly to attain Goal 4. The literacy rate at all Indian levels of persons of age 7 years and above is 77.7% according to the report of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO). In 2015, India embraced the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which seeks to guarantee inclusive and equitable quality education while fostering lifelong learning opportunities for all by the year 2030. This paper is a synoptic micro-study to review the present status of education in India and to find out the opportunities and challenges by overviewing the newly proposed National Education Policy, 2020. This study explores the critical role of good governance in the school education sector as a key driver towards achieving the sustainable educational development goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. We'll delve into the importance of effective governance, identify key elements, examine the challenges and barriers to implementation, and propose strategies for achieving successful implementation of good governance practices within the educational landscape.
