India’s digital infrastructure has evolved significantly over the past two decades, driven by the rapid expansion of internet services, mobile connectivity, and government initiatives like Digital India. This paper examines the growth trajectory of India’s digital infrastructure, highlighting key developments such as the expansion of broadband through BharatNet, the widespread adoption of mobile internet, and the rise of digital payment platforms like UPI. Despite these achievements, significant challenges persist, including the urban-rural digital divide, inadequate broadband speeds, cybersecurity risks, and regulatory bottlenecks. Additionally, the country faces financial and policy hurdles in scaling emerging technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT). This paper also explores future directions for digital infrastructure development in India, emphasizing the need for public-private partnerships, enhanced digital literacy, and investment in emerging technologies to ensure that India remains competitive in the global digital economy. The discussion aims to provide a roadmap for overcoming current challenges and fostering an inclusive digital ecosystem that can drive sustainable economic growth.Published
