RECENT TRENDS IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND CLIMATE ACTION INITIATIVES IN INDIA

One of the major concerns of the twenty-first century is climate change. The sharp rise and intensity of climate change have been felt everywhere, with profound effects on society. India's natural, socioeconomic, and urban landscapes have seen a significant upheaval as a result of the consequences of climate change. Extreme weather events have become more frequent and numerous in India in recent years, putting vulnerable people at risk. Many cities of India was included among the world's most polluted cities and had serious air pollution, for e.g Delhi and nearby area is grappling with life threatening air for weeks. To tackle these problems, India's goal is to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This chapter tries to have a holistic understanding about India's environmental and climate action, with its progression over time for vision Viksit Bharat and detail discussed policy innovations in climate and environmental governance.Published
