The Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as a transformative technology, driving innovation and efficiency in smart city development. As urbanization continues to rise, cities face mounting challenges, including resource management, pollution, energy efficiency, and public safety. IoT provides engineering solutions that address these challenges by integrating advanced sensors, networks, and analytics to create interconnected systems. This paper explores how IoT applications can enhance urban sustainability through real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and data-driven decision-making. Key areas of focus include smart transportation, energy-efficient buildings, waste management, and environmental monitoring. By leveraging IoT technologies, cities can optimize resource utilization, reduce environmental impact, and improve the quality of life for citizens. Moreover, this study examines the challenges of implementing IoT in smart cities, such as data security, privacy concerns, and infrastructure requirements, while highlighting strategies to overcome these hurdles. The findings underscore the potential of IoT as a cornerstone for sustainable urban development, enabling cities to meet the demands of a rapidly growing population while fostering economic, environmental, and social resilience.Published
