MOOC: A POTENTIAL UNLOCKED

Abstract

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has transformed the face of education across the globe by creating courses which are easy to access, scalable, and flexible. These courses are offered in various subject areas from business and technology to the humanities and sciences, which are provided free of cost. Generally, these courses are developed by Colleges, Universities, or faculties and aimed at enhancing access to those residing in remote areas, having financial problems and those who are employed. ‘M’ in MOOCs stands for massive which indicates huge number of learners ranging from hundreds to millions can join the course. ‘O’ in MOOCs indicate openness which permits learners of all ages and qualifications to enter the course. ‘O’ in MOOCs stands for online learning environments these courses provide. Asynchronous learning environments help learners pursue the course in their own pace. MOOCs has a four-quadrant approach where there are video lectures, e-content, quizzes, assignments, and discussion forum to help interaction among learners.
