Abstract

This study investigates the retail dynamics of local shopkeepers in Thrissur, Kerala. It focuses on five key dimensions: customer interaction efficiency, visual merchandising, use of technology, hygiene awareness, and eco-friendly practices. The study used systematic observation over a 15-day period, observed five shopkeepers from diverse retail sectors, including a bakery, grocery store, and fancy store, in residential neighborhoods. The aim was to understand the retail dynamics of local shopkeepers and to understand the variations in their approaches to each aspects. Findings provided valuable insights into areas such as customer service, technology use, and sustainability, which can help small businesses enhance their operations. The study sets the foundation for further research that could expand the sample size, explore additional dimensions, and incorporate interviews or surveys to deepen the understanding of local retail dynamics.
