Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in 2015, provide a comprehensive framework for addressing global economic, social, and environmental challenges. India, as one of the fastest-growing economies and a key player in global climate commitments, has made significant strides in areas such as poverty reduction, renewable energy, and healthcare. However, the country faces persistent challenges, including regional disparities, climate vulnerabilities, and governance inefficiencies. This chapter examines India's progress toward the SDGs, highlighting key initiatives like the Aspirational Districts Programme, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and the National Solar Mission. It also explores the institutional mechanisms, policy frameworks, and funding strategies employed to localize the SDGs. Despite notable achievements, India must address socio-economic inequalities, environmental degradation, and digital divides to achieve the 2030 Agenda.
